AFK Books & Records, Virginia Beach's grooviest record store has thousands of high-quality new and
gently pre-enjoyed vinyl records. Pop, rock, punk, indie, blues, jazz, soul, country, bluegrass, metal,
classical, soundtracks, comedy and more.
We check all of our pre-enjoyed vinyl records for quality
and price accordingly, but if a rough one slips through
the cracks (grooves?), we offer a money-back
satisfaction guarantee on ALL pre-enjoyed products.
We would be glad to spin pre-enjoyed vinyl, before your
purchase, and headphones are always available if the
content may be objectionable to our younger store
listeners.
Save big on vinyl at AFK Books & Records. We order
direct from many labels and pass the savings along to
you. We'd also be happy to special order vinyl or CDs
for you.
Pinched for funds? We have huge budget bins, filled
with hundreds of records priced $4.99 and below. Also,
whenever you buy a qualifying new item you can take an
additional 25% off a pre-enjoyed vinyl, book, or movie.
Rinse and repeat!
BTW, we pay cash for pre-enjoyed vinyl in good
condition. Just bring in a stack anytime and we'll usually
have a quote ready in an hour or less. We also take
“free to good home” vinyl donations and will forward any
vinyl we can't use to a charitable organization.
• Vinyl has artwork and liner notes you can actually
read! Vinyl looks great on a coffee table and even
better framed on a wall.
• Every pop and crackle adds character to the
record's sound. You're not just experiencing the
music, you're experiencing everything the vinyl has
experienced. Alicia M.
• Many new artists (and veterans) package vinyl
records with high quality MP3 and FLAC download
codes, so you get the best of both the digital and
physical worlds. We like to explore new artists with
services like Spotify too, but nothing beats the high
quality of vinyl or FLAC.
• That fresh vinyl smell. 'nuff said!
• I love picking up used vinyl and finding something
else with it - a letter, picture, card, hand written
lyrics, newspaper clipping. All of it tells more of the
story of the music and those who enjoyed it
previously. You get a little glimpse into their world
and what that moment was like when they listened
to that album. Alicia M.
• Great sound. I love the “warmth” and extended
range of an uncompressed vinyl track. Truth is,
most recently pressed vinyl has been first rendered
on digital equipment, and then converted back to
analog form. Don't let that deter you though as those
“master” digital files are generally not compressed
and the vinyl output is much richer than CDs or MP3
files. There are several musical purists who
continue to master their music on analog
equipment. AFK Books also has thousands of
records pressed before the digital age.
• Vinyl is so cool for many reasons. It's old school
and in some cases old school is very cool. I love
the album art and the warm sound that vinyl has
compared to CD's. Vinyl offers much more of a
tactile experience than music played on iPods and
MP3 players. To some degree, listening to records
requires that you be in the same room where the
record player is. As a result, you are more engaged
in the music compared to listening to music on an
iPod. With an iPod, you tend to be doing other
things while listening to music and therefore less
engaged in the music itself. J.M.
• Long-lasting freshness. If you bought CDs in the
1980's, and took good care of them, you may have
noticed that the foil surface has started to
deteriorate, making the disc unplayable. Your eyes
are also probably bad enough by now that reading
the small print on the CD liner notes is futile. If you
bought vinyl in... errr... the 1930's, and took good
care of them, you may have noticed that the vinyl
still sounds absolutely incredible, just like it did in
1930 AND you can still read the liner notes, even in
your nineties! John B.
• Vinyl records are easy to share with others, but we
recommend holding a large deposit or driver's
license until the “precious” has been returned.
• Easy to spin backwards for hidden satanic
messages from zombiefied Paul McCartney.
So you ask, "Why Vinyl?" Haven't taken the plunge
and want to know what all the fuss is about? Here's
what our customers (and we!) say...
New releases and bestsellers at AFK Books!
AFK Books & Records also stocks rare and
collectible vinyl and boxed sets. We sell a full line of
turntables and accessories and are an authorized
retailer for Music Hall and Audio Technica.
Since they never really perfected the "in dash" vinyl
record player, we would be remiss to not mention
that we also sell thousands of CDs. We also sell
hundreds of music-related DVDs and books.
AFK Books & Records is a proud supporter of Record
Store Day events. While you'll find rare and collectible
vinyl every day at AFK Books & Records, on this special
day we have access to an "ox-stunning" assortment of
rare and limited edition vinyl. The next big Record Store
Day event is on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
Hundreds of jazz records including many first pressings.
